What’s In A Name? Tips On Picking the Most Magical Disney Name For Your Dog

250 Enchanting Disney Dog Names 1Picking the right name for your dog should be a fun experience for all. (https://pixabay.com/photos/mickey-mouse-daisy-walt-disney-duck-2732231/)

If you’re here looking for a Disney dog name then there is a good chance you’re either about to introduce a new dog into your family or you already have. So, without further ado, I think congratulations are in order!

There is almost nothing as exciting as getting a new dog or puppy. No, not even going to Disneyland can compare, in my dog-loving, humble opinion.

Picking out the right dog for you is certainly a process, and the work continues well into doggy parenthood. You need training tips and advice, walking equipment, food bowls, dog food, grooming brushes, doggy shampoos, and the list goes on and on.

But first, after you get your dog, you are going to need a name.

Naming your dog can be challenging, but it should also be a fun and family-friendly experience. In fact, did you know that naming your dog is one of the first steps you’ll take in the bonding process?

So, what’s in a name? Well, a few syllables, for starters. And that leads us to the “rules” of dog naming.

Okay, let me correct myself. There aren’t really rules to naming your dog. I mean, you can honestly name your dog anything you want. But there are some tips and tricks experts recommend you follow when it comes to picking the best name for your new fur kid.

For those of you who want your dog to learn his name sooner than later, experts recommend going with names that have two syllables like Ruby or Hendrix. They suggest you try avoiding names that are longer than three syllables like Delihla or shorter than two syllables like Max.

Why?

Because research has found that dogs seem to pick up quicker on names with two syllables. With that being said, we should still note that, regardless of how many syllables are in your dog’s name, he should be able to figure out who he is within a few weeks or so.

This means you shouldn’t shy away from names that are longer or shorter than the two-syllable suggestion, especially if these names are your lifelong doggy dream names. And if you do want to name your dog something longer or shorter but you’re worried about your dog learning his name quickly, you can always give your pooch a nickname in the beginning to help him out.

For example, are you naming your dog Max? Try calling him Maxy for a while. Are you sold on the name Patricia? Go with Patty. It’s really as simple as that.

Alright then. Now that we have all those pesky “rules” and tips out of the way, let’s get on to the really fun stuff – Disney Dog names!

Tips On Teaching Your Dog His New Disney Dog Name

250 Enchanting Disney Dog Names 12
Do you want your dog to learn his Disney dog name as fast as possible? Then break out the treats!

Research suggests that dogs are able to learn their names in as little as two week, regardless of their age. This means that your new dog should be able to figure out who he is pretty quickly, regardless of if he is a young puppy or an adult rescue dog. Lucky you!

Of course, this doesn’t mean that your dog is going to be able to figure out who he is all on his own. He’s going to need your help and training.

In fact, did you know that when training is done correctly, many dogs are able to learn their names even sooner than the fourteen week deadline? Nice!

So, how do you go about properly teaching your dog his new Disney dog name?

Start with healthy training treats. Most dogs are food motivated and all dogs respond best to positive reinforcement like praise, so help your pup associate his name with something great by rewarding him each time he responds to it.

Try saying your dog’s name. When he looks at you, give him a treat. Repeat this several times throughout the day in short training intervals that last about five minutes each.

Next, you can try going out of the room or move farther away from your dog and call him by name. If he doesn’t come right to you, don’t worry. Training is about being patient and being repetitive.

Start over again by saying your dog’s name directly to him and waiting until he gives you direct eye contact. Then treat him quickly and give him praise!

Remember, praise and treats are key! Be careful not to scold your dog using his name in the early days, especially when he is still learning it.

You don’t want your dog to begin to associate his name with something negative. If that happens, it is likely your dog will not want to come to you when called in the future.

So, which Disney dog name above do you like best? Are there any Disney dog names we forgot to mention that you wish we had? From one Disney dog fan to another, we would love to hear from you.
